Dual active bridge isolated DC-DC converters are now widely used in medium and high-power applications such as DC distribution systems, electric vehicle chargers, etc. A design methodology has been developed that minimizes current stress and enables lossless switching. Combined with an optimal switching strategy, the proposed design ensures the best possible efficiency over the entire operating range. Contrary to popular belief, this work shows that it is possible to keep the current stress close to its minimum possible value over variation in voltage gain through proper design.
