The M.Tech.(SP) program is a flagship program of the Departments of Electrical Engineering (EE) and Electrical Communication Engineering (ECE). Launched about two decades ago, the program has been running successfully and has inspired similar programs in other institutions across the country. The program produced stellar alumni who have gone on to become faculty members at Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Tata Institute of Fundamental Research (TIFR), National Institutes of Technology (NITs), and International Institutes of Information Technology (IIITs) and leading universities across the world. The program has also produced leading industry professionals who have excelled in the corporate world in India and elsewhere in the world. M.Tech.(SP) is also highly sought after by students who wish to pursue a PhD in SP and allied areas in top-notch universities in India and abroad. Several M.Tech.(SP) students also opt to convert to PhD after the first semester of their coursework.
Signal Processing occupies a central place in several state-of-the-art disciplines such as Biomedical Imaging, Healthcare, Communication and Information Technology, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence (AI), Autonomous Systems and Robotics, Data Science, Power Systems, etc. With the quest for building “explainable AI systems” taking center stage, the demand for Signal Processing engineers with a rock-solid foundation in various fundamental courses and advanced topics has increased like never before.
During the past few years, the program has been strengthened by the recruitment of ten new faculty members in the area. The program has been significantly revamped considering the rapid advances in the fields of Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. In its new avatar, the program has a brand new and unique flavor. Students admitted to the program will go through a rigorous foundational module that will equip them with the skill set required to succeed in the program. Subsequently, they can choose a specialization module that best matches their interests and gain mastery and focus on the specialization. The specialization will also form the basis for their Masters projects and strengthen their placement preparedness. The course work is augmented by a strong project component accounting for 28 credits. Most SP graduates in the past have produced work of outstanding quality as part of their Masters projects, which got published in premier IEEE conferences and journals.
The program is closely monitored by a Program Curriculum Committee. The students will be mentored by world-class faculty in the area. There are numerous opportunities for internships and industry interactions, especially during the Masters projects. We have state-of-the-art computational infrastructure comprising several DGX servers, GPU workstations, etc. to cater to the computing needs of the students.
This program is ideal for top performing students from Electrical Communication Engineering and Electrical Engineering backgrounds who wish to excel and become world-class leaders in the area. The qualifying GATE papers are GATE-EC and GATE-EE. Applicants will be shortlisted based on GATE score. The selection is based on a combination of performance in GATE (70% weightage) and a technical interview (30% weightage).
Come join us for an exciting journey in Signal Processing!
