PhD
You need to have a masters (MTech, MS, MTech(res)) degree and appear for an interview. Our annual research interview typically happens in May, and occasionally we also conduct a mid-year interview in December. A GATE score is preferred but not essential. Typically you need to do two semesters of course work for a minimum of 12 credits followed by research and submit your thesis; all of it taking roughly about 4 to 5 years the date of joining. Institute provides necessary support to attend an international conference.

Direct PhD
You need to have a BE/BTech degree from a centrally funded technical institute (CFTI) with a minimum CGPA of 8.5/10 and appear for an interview along with the regular PhD students in May or Dec. A GATE score is preferred but not essential. Typically you need to do a minimum of 24 credits of course work spread over 2-3 semesters followed by research, all of which roughly takes about 5 years from the date of joining. Institute provides necessary support to attend an international conference.

MTech (Research)
You need to have a BE/BTech degree and MUST have a valid GATE score. Even though the cut-off for shortlisting candidates for an interview changes every year, aiming for an AIR below 1000 is a safe bet. Our research interview typically happens in May, but we also sometime conduct a mid-year interview in December. Typically you need to do two semesters of course work and need to submit your thesis in 2.5 years from your date of joining. Note, this is a research program- implying that at the end you will write a thesis to showcase your original contributions. As you can spend effectively three semesters in your project, you will be able to design, built and test a cutting edge power converter. Typically students write papers in reputed journals. Due to intense training, this degree is preferred if one later wants to pursue a PhD program. Institute provides necessary support to attend an international conference.

MTech
You need to have a BE/BTech degree and must have a valid GATE score. Selection is based on a written test followed by interview of candidates shortlisted based on their GATE AIR. Of course, the cut-off keeps varying every year. Typically, an AIR below 1000 is a safe bet. Our written test and interview typically happens in April. This is a two year program with three semester of course work and one semester of project. We have interesting scholarship programmes with industry, if qualified, it provides enhanced scholarship along with job offers.

Post Doctoral Assistants
You need to have a PhD degree with a very good publication record in top journals in your area. There are several attractive schemes available for funding such as NPDF from DST, Institute Postdoc and Raman Fellowship from IISc. If you are interested please send me an email.

Project Assistants
We recruit students with good academic background (BTech and MTech degrees). Average salary is in the range of 3 to 5 Lakhs per annum and each time the appointment is done for 4 months, extendable based on performance, availability of funds, etc.
