Welcome!
Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore, in collaboration with the IEEE Bangalore section and its chapters such as IEEE Power Electronics(PELS), Power Engineering(PES), Computer Society(CS), Industry Applications(IAS), Signal Processing(SP), Young Professional(YP) Bangalore Chapters and IISc PES student chapter, is organizing EE summer school 2022 for undergraduate students and young working professionals with an EE/ECE/CS/EEE background in the first week of July,2022. This weeklong summer school will be hosted in IISc, Bangalore. The objective is to encourage brilliant young minds to build careers in areas of Electrical Engineering including Signal Processing, Machine Learning, Artificial Intelligence, Power Electronics, Power Systems, Renewable Integration, High voltage Engineering and Control Systems. There will be talks and demonstrations by IISc faculty, research students and industry professionals to introduce the attendees to the area of interest and let them know the applications, current challenges and emerging trends. This would also showcase their talent by participating in various activities like quizzes, hackathons, etc. We expect 100+ UG students to join from top engineering colleges including IITs and NITs from all over the country.

Entry To the Summer School
Announcements
- Deadline for submission of applications has been extended from 30 May to 5 June, 2022 till the end of day (11:59 pm). It should be noted that there is no fee for applications. For eligibility details please refer to FAQs section.
- Tentative schedule can be checked by clicking on the “Schedule” tab available on the top menu bar. Interested students are requested to keep visiting the website frequently for regular updates.
- Shortlisted candidates (who are selected for the interview) will get a mail from the summer school committee informing them regarding interviews. Please refer to the flow diagram given above for information about the whole application process. Candidates will be shortlisted based on their academic performances and details filled up by them in the application form.
- List of selected candidates will be announced on 15 June, 2022 on the website. The decision made by the selection committee will be final.
- Selected candidates will be required to accept their selection by filling up a paid registration form, which will be made available from 16 June, 2022 to 25 June, 2022(11:59 pm). For Registration fee details please refer the flow diagram given above.
- It should be noted that filling up the registration form is compulsory otherwise the selection offer stands cancelled.
- All the registered candidates will receive a formal invitation letter by the Summer School Committee through e-mail. This will be the entry pass to summer school.
- The whole weeklong event will be hosted by Electrical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. For details about reaching the campus please refer the FAQs section.
- At least 50 UG students will be provided with free Travel and Accommodation(TA support) facilities based upon the Merit. This merit list will be announced on 15 June, 2022 (the same day when the list of selected candidates will be out).
- The remaining students (who are not in the merit list) will be required to arrange for their travel and accommodation on their own.
- The participants will be given free Wi-Fi access in the department. Participants are advised to bring their Laptops.
- All the students will be awarded with a certificate of participation.

- Speaker Bio: Prof. P. S. Sastry is a professor and past chairman of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.
- Speaker Bio: He is Professor at Department of ECE, IISc, Bangalore. He is also an IEEE Fellow, Vice President- Membership IEEE SPS Society and Past Chair IEEE Bangalore Section.
- Speaker Bio: Dr. Prasant Misra is a Senior Scientist at Tata Consultancy Services - Research, where he works on intelligent cyber-physical systems for electric mobility. He received his PhD in Computer Science and Engineering from UNSW Sydney and completed his Post-doctoral from SICS Stockholm. He has received several recognitions for his work, of which it is noteworthy to mention MIT TR35 India (2017), the ERCIM Alain Bensoussan and Marie Curie Fellowship (2012), and the Australian Government’s AusAID Australian Leadership Awards (2008). He is the Chair of IEEE Computer Society Bangalore Chapter and Vice-Chair (Industry Engagement) of IEEE Bangalore Section. He is a senior member of the IEEE and ACM.

- Speaker Bio: He is an associate professor of the Electrical Engineering Department at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru.

- Speaker Bio:
Sayan Paul received the B.Tech. degree from the National Institute of Technology, Durgapur, India in 2014; the M.Sc. (Engg.) degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 2018, both in electrical engineering. He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree at the Electrical Engineering Department, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. His research interests include PWM techniques, modeling and control of multiphase drives, multi-level converters, etc.

- Speaker Bio: Anwesha Mukhopadhyay is currently pursuing her PhD in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India. Her research area is Power Electronics, with specific interest in converter topologies, active filters, and converter control. She has done her Masters in Power Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur. Prior to that she was associated with India’s largest power utility-NTPC Limited as Engineer, Electrical Maintenance.
- Talk Title: Analytical Prediction of Static Flux-Linkage Characteristics of Switched Reluctance Machine.
- Speaker Bio: He received a B.E. degree in electrical engineering from the National Institute of Technology, Meghalaya, India, in 2018. He is currently working towards a Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical Engineering from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.
His research interests include the design and control of switched reluctance machines, high-speed machine drives, and modeling and control of power electronic systems.
- Talk Title: A Unified Multi-port Electric Vehicle Charger
- Speaker Bio: He is a Direct Ph.D. student in Dept. of Electrical Engineering, joined in August 2020. He is working under Dr. Vishnu Mahadeva Iyer. He has completed his B.Tech degree in Electrical Engineering from IIT (ISM) Dhanbad in 2020. His primary research work is on reconfigurable grid-connected converters. His research interests include soft-switching converters, modeling, control, and stability of power converters.

Dr. Shashidhar is Chief Technology Officer at Delta Electronics India Pvt. Ltd. located in Bengaluru. He has more than 20Y of professional experience in design and development of power electronics products and solutions. He holds Bachelor's degree from Gulbarga University, a master's from EE department IISC and PhD from Paderborn University. Post joining Delta in 2011 as an engineering manager focused on high power and high voltage power electronics, especially for renewables and energy infrastructure segments. Since 2019, he has been in the current position and heading the complete RD division.

Hari holds a doctorate in Mechanical Engineering from Yale University specializing in Control Systems and has worked in the controls and signal processing space for more than 10 years now helping create products at both startups and established companies. At Ather he heads the System Intelligence & Vehicle Firmware teams, which develop core control algorithms & firmware for the BMS, Motor Controller, Vehicle Control Unit & Ather's Charging Infrastructure.

Rajesh is currently the Founder/COO of Arka Energy and is involved with managing the business operations of the company. He has 25+ years of experience in various verticals - including semiconductors, IoT and Renewables.
He has set up multiple companies from the ground up and set up high-impact global product development teams. Rajesh graduated from NITK Surathkal and had an MS in Electrical engineering from Arizona State University. Additionally, Rajesh has 15 patents and an MBA from UC Berkeley.

Speaker Bio: He is currently pursuing his Ph.D (2016 - present) under the guidance of Dr. Sriram Ganapathy at LEAP Lab, Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru. He obtained his B.E. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PES Institute of Technology, South Campus, Bengaluru in 2016.

Speaker Bio: Tanuka Bhattacharjee is a PhD scholar at SPIRE Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. Prior to this, she worked as a Researcher at TCS Innovation Lab, Kolkata. She has received the B.Tech. degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Techno India, Salt Lake in 2015 and the M.E. degree in Electronics and Tele-communication Engineering from Jadavpur University, Kolkata in 2017. Her research interests include speech processing, machine learning, deep learning and physiological signal processing.

- Speaker Bio: Ajay Srinivasamurthy is an Applied Science Manager at the Amazon Alexa Speech in Bengaluru, where he works on large scale automatic speech recognition systems. Prior to joining Amazon, he was a postdoctoral researcher at Idiap Research Institute, Martigny Switzerland working on speech recognition for Air Traffic Control. He got his PhD in Music Technology from Universitat Pompeu Fabra.

- Speaker Bio: Vikas leads the Product team at Gnani.ai and is responsible for overseeing the development of various products in the Conversational AI space. He has around 5 years of experience building products for his own Startups as well as other companies in IoT, Machine Learning and E-commerce domain.

- Speaker Bio: Vikram is a Patent Holder & Electronics engineer offering fresh insight and passion for innovation. He has a proven track record with over 18 years of experience in the development of solution for speech and audio tech. He is a R&D head delivering creative voice tech solutions for the next decade, with a vision to develop new voice technologies for hyper converged digital world.

- Speaker Bio: Shashidhar obtained his Masters and PhD from ECE department, IISc, Bangalore in 2000 and 2004 respectively. Since then, he has been involved in various transceiver design efforts for 4G technologies at Beceem Communications, Broadcom and Qualcomm. Currently, he is at Qualcomm Bangalore, leading the Wireless Systems efforts in Qualcomm India. His research interests include MIMO signal processing and errorcorrection codes.

- Speaker Bio: Dr. Soma Biswas is an Assistant Professor in the Electrical Engineering department in IISc. She received her PhD degree in Electrical and Computer Engineering from University of Maryland, College Park, in 2009. Then she worked as a Research Assistant Professor at University of Notre Dame and as a Research Scientist at GE Research before joining IISc. She is a senior member of IEEE and received the prestigious IEEE Shri Pralhad P Chhabria “Best Professional Women Engineer” Award in 2018. Her research interests include computer vision, machine learning, deep learning.

- Speaker Bio:
Dr. Sriram Ganapathy is an Associate Professor at the Electrical Engineering Dept., Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. his research interests are in signal processing, machine learning, deep learning and neuroscience with applications to robust speech recognition, speech enhancement, speech coding and audio analytics including biometrics. Before joining as a faculty member at the Indian Institute of Science, he spent 4 years as a Research Staff Member at the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY,USA. he completed his Ph.D. with Prof. Hynek Hermansky, at Center for Language and Speech Processing, Dept. of ECE, Johns Hopkins University, USA.

- Speaker Bio: Kartheek Kumar Reddy graduated from IIT Kharagpur with a major in Electronics and Electrical Communication Engineering in 2016. He worked with Honeywell for a period of 2 years during which he developed device drivers for a weather radar system. He joined IISc in 2018, and he is a recipient of the Prime Minister's Research Fellowship. His research interests span linear inverse problems in computational imaging and efficient deep unfolded networks.

G R Karthik is a PhD student at SPIRE Lab in the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his MSc(Engg.) from the same department in 2018. After completing his BTech(ECE) from Amrita School of Engineering, Coimbatore in 2013, he worked at IBM before joining IISc for his Master's in 2015.

- Speaker Bio:
Siddarth Asokan received his B.E. degree in Electronics and Communications Engineering from the Ramaiah Institute of Technology, Bangalore in 2017. He subsequently joined the direct Ph.D. programme at the Robert Bosch Center for Cyber Physical Systems (RBCCPS) at IISc and has since been associated with the Spectrum Lab at the EE Department. His research interests include signal processing and machine learning, with a focus on generative adversarial networks (GANs) and developing a theoretical foundation for their analysis. He is the recipient of the Microsoft Research Fellowship 2018, Qualcomm Innovation Fellowships 2019, 2021 and 2022, and RBCCPS Ph.D. Fellowships 2020, and 2021.

Nishanth Shetty graduated with a BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering from PES University in 2020. Jayateja is currently a PhD student in Image Analysis and Computer Vision Lab, Department of Electrical Engineering, IISc. His research interests include Deep Learning and Data-Efficient Class Incremental Learning methods.
- Speaker Bio: Amit Kumar works as a Senior Solutions Architect - Deep Learning at NVIDIA . He completed his B. Tech in 2010 from IIT Guwahati . He has previously worked at HP research lab, VMware ,EFI and got the opportunity to complete internships at Google as a summer of code students, Indian statistical institute Kolkata, Technical University of Braunschweig Germany .He has 7 patents in the areas of Deep learning ,NLP, Classical machine learning ,statistical modelling , Industry 4.0 and 3D printing . His areas of interest include -NLP, Computer Vision , Deep Learning ,Statistical Learning,ASR,TTS,GPUs, accelerated computing ,AI for Industry 4.0 ,AI for Healthcare, AI for Robotics.

- Speaker Bio:
Malolan Chetlur is Director of Research – Languages at Uniphore. In Uniphore, he is working with speech and NLP scientists and engineering teams towards building world class conversational AI systems. Prior joining Uniphore, he was a senior research scientist in IBM Research - India. He has more than 35 patents and 35 publications in AI, cloud, and distributed software systems. He is a senior member of ACM and is in the technical program committee of IEEE cloud and big-data conferences. Malolan received his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in computer engineering from the University of Cincinnati.

- Speaker Bio:
Partha is a Staff Research Scientist at Google Research, Bangalore where he leads a group focused on Natural Language Understanding. He is also an Associate Professor (on leave) at IISc Bangalore. Partha founded KENOME, an enterprise Knowledge graph company with the mission to help enterprises make sense of unstructured data. Previously, Partha was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Machine Learning Department at Carnegie Mellon University, working with Tom Mitchell on the NELL project. He received his PhD (2010) in CIS from the University of Pennsylvania. Partha is broadly interested in Natural Language Processing, Machine Learning, and Knowledge Graphs. Partha is a recipient of several awards, including an Outstanding Paper Award at ACL 2019. He is a co-author of a book on Graph-based Semi-Supervised Learning.

- Speaker Bio: A G Vishal Anand received B.E degree from Bharathiar University, Coimbatore in 2001 and M.S degree from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2005. He worked at Tata Motors Pvt Ltd, Pune from June 2005 to Nov 2005 as Manager. From Dec 2005 to August 2006, he worked in American Power Conversion as a Design Engineer. From Sep 2006 to present day he has been with Bloom Energy (I) Pvt Ltd currently working as Senior Principal Engineer. He is working towards his Ph. D at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His primary areas of interests are in the modelling, control and design of grid connected/ stand-alone Inverters, topology, analysis and control of resonant converters. He’s the current Chair of IEEE Power Electronics Society, Bangalore chapter and holds 4 US patents.

Shailesh is currently working as Director, SW Audio, Harman International responsible for Car Audio solutions like Audio Personalization, ANC, Road Noise Cancellation, Vehicle Noise Compensation, Audio Equalizer, Surround sound Audio, and other audio features to major car audio manufacturers worldwide. He has 22 years of industrial experience in the field of Audio Signal processing. He has worked in the capacity of Director of Audio Algorithms in Knowles (Formerly Audience Inc) and Manager in Amazon Lab126. He earned his Bachelors's Degree from Gulbarga University and a Master's Degree from BITS Pilani. He has extensively worked on Noise Suppression and Echo Cancellers which were adopted into major smartphones like Apple, Samsung, Xiaomi, LG, OnePlus, etc. Shailesh worked in Amazon Lab126 and was leading the team which delivered the industry's leading smart speaker product the Echo series. He currently holds 7 issued and pending patents. He is currently serving as the Chairman of the IEEE Bangalore Section Signal Processing Chapter.

- Speaker Bio: He is a professor & current chairman of the Electrical Engineering department, IISc Bengaluru. He is working in high voltage engineering. His current research areas include Lightning modelling and Protection, Impulse current Measurement, High Frequency Response of Coils. He is a Editor of IEEE Trans. On Power Delivery, Associate Editor, IET High Voltage & Journal of Lightning Research and Senior Member of IEEE and member of CIGRE.

- Speaker Bio: He is Principal research scientist at high Voltage Laboratory and a faculty at the Electrical Engineering department, IISc Bengaluru. He is working in high voltage engineering. His current research areas include EHV/UHV Transmission, Insulation Engg, Pollution & Multi stress aging Studies, Condition monitoring & Failure analysis. He is a Fellow of the Society of Power Engineers, CBIP, New-Delhi, Fellow of the Institution of Engineers (India), and a Senior Member, IEEE and Member IEEE Eta-Kappa Nu, USA.

He worked as a PostDoctoral Fellow at the University of Ontario Institute Of Technology, Canada.Previously, he was with the Global Technology Centre of Schneider Electric India Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, India; and Power Research and Development Consultants Pvt. Ltd, Bangalore, India. He worked as an assistant professor at the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur, India. Currently, he is working as an assistant professor in the Electrical Engineering Department of Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India.

Prof. Gurunath received the B.Tech.degree from S.V.H.College of Engg., Nagarjuna University, Guntur, India in 2001, the M.Tech. (Eng.) degree from the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University, Anantapur, India in 2004, the PhD degree from the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore, India in 2010. He worked as a PostDoctoral Fellow at the Texas A&M University and Oak Ridge National Lab, USA. His current research areas include High Performance Computing Applications in Power Systems Analysis and Control, Nonlinear and Intelligent Control Applications in Power Systems, Weak Grid Integration of Renewables, Microgrid Protection and Control, Smart Grid Control and Stability.

- Speaker Bio: Kuldeep Singh Shivran is a 2nd year Ph.D. Student in Electrical Engineering Department at Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. His research area is “Cyber Security in Power System Protection.” He did his B.Tech. in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from NIT Meghalaya in 2016. He worked as an associate system engineer at IBM India Pvt. Ltd. from Aug 2016 to June 2018. Also, he held the position of Director and Chief Technology Officer at a start-up called “Varistor Technologies Pvt. Ltd.” from June 2018 to Jan 2019.

- Speaker Bio: He received his B.Tech degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Gudlavalleru Engineering College, Gudlavalleru in 2008 and M.E degree in Electrical Engineering from Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore in 2010. He is currently pursuing Ph.D. degree with the Department of Electrical Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, India. His research interests include power system stability, application of estimation theory, control of power systems.

- Speaker Bio: Vibhuti Sahu is a 3rd year Direct PhD student in Electrical Department at IISc Bangalore. She completed her B.Tech in Electrical Engineering from NIT Raipur in 2019. Her field of interest is "High Performance Computing in Power System Studies". She is currently working on a project under National Supercomputing Mission.

- Speaker Bio: Pradeep Vijayan is a Power Electronics professional with 20+ years of Research & Development expertise with GE. He is currently a Principal Engineer in power electronics . He has expertise across a breadth of areas from high frequency conversion, single and three phase rectifiers, inverters and DC-DC converters. Over the past 8+ years Pradeep has been working in the space of Aviation power electronics , system modelling and control.
Pradeep has 20+ filed patent applications till date. He is experienced in transitioning designs from conceptual stage to high TRL. He has worked with customers in many industry sectors such as: consumer, industrial, rail, and aviation. His current research interests include Electrical system modelling, high frequency conversion, and optimized converter design.

- Speaker Bio: He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering Department at IISc, Bengaluru. He is also the Associate Faculty at Robert Bosch Centre for Cyber-Physical Systems. His current research interests include networked control systems, distributed systems and control, multi-agent systems and control and dynamics of socio-technical systems.

- Speaker Bio:
Dr. Balamuralidhar P is a Chief Scientist and Head of Robotics and Autonomous Systems Research Area, TCS Research, Bangalore. He has obtained Bachelor of Technology from Kerala University and Master of Technology from IIT Kanpur. His PhD is from Aalborg University, Denmark. Major areas of current research include Sensor Informatics, AI, Computer Vision, Cognitive Robotics, Remote Sensing, Space Robotics and Computing for Space. Dr.Balamuralidhar has over 34 years of research and development experience and lead several collaborative research initiatives. He has over 150 publications in various international journals and conferences and over 60 patents granted. His previous research careers were with SAMEER Bombay, and Sasken Communications Bangalore. He has co-authored a book titled ‘IoT-Technical Challenges and Solutions’ published by Artech Book House. Balamuralidhar has received TCS Distinguished Scientist award in 2020. He is also recipient of two Tata Innovista awards and the Serial Innovator award from Tata group. He has delivered several keynote addresses and invited talks in reputed conferences and symposiums. He is also a senior member of IEEE.

- Speaker Bio: Anusree is a Ph.D student working under the guidance of Dr. Pavankumar Tallapragada in the department of Electrical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science Bengaluru. Her research interests include networked control systems, event - triggered control and resource – aware control in applications like cyber physical systems.
- Talk Title: Barrier Functions for Safe Formation and Motion Control.
- Speaker Bio:
Aditya Hegde is pursuing his Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, with a specialization in multi-agent systems, at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore. He received his M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor with a specialization in Systems and Control. His B.E. is in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delhi, New Delhi. Prior to joining the Ph.D. program, he was working at Cummins Inc. in Columbus, Indiana as a Systems Integration Engineer. He has five years of experience with Systems Engineering, and the design and deployment of control algorithms for automotive products.

- Speaker Bio: Nishchal is a 3rd year Ph.D student in RBCCPS under Dr. Pavankumar Tallapragada. His research interests include learning for control systems, networked control systems and RL techniques for combinatorial optimization.

- Speaker Bio: Shobhit has worked in the tech industry for more than 25 years; he has witnessed the growth of technology and standards from small business applications to large platforms that touch several businesses and governments at once. He is passionate about applying technology to solve real world problems, and believes technology can be a force for the good. Shobhit also loves to read books and travel to see beautiful landscapes, cultures, cuisines and people on this planet. He also gladly accepts any invite for authentic home cooked food!!

Frequently asked questions (faq)
III, IV academic year (2022-23) UG students from EE/ECE/CS/EEE departments and working professionals with a bachelor's degree in EE/ECE/CS/EEE are eligible for application. It should be noted that application is completely free of cost.
NOTE: Students who have just finished second year and are going to enter third year are ELIGIBLE candidates. Same holds for students who have finished third year and entering their final year. Every student who will be in third or fourth year in the academic year 2022-23 can apply.

Registration fee details:
- For Normal Students= 1200+GST(18%) INR.
- For IEEE members= 1000+GST(18%) INR.
Among the selected candidates, 50+ UG students will be provided with free travel and accommodation based upon the merit. The merit list will be generated based upon the details filled up by the students in the application form. Remaining candidates will be required to arrange travel and accommodation on their own.
Yes, All the participants will receive a certificate of participation.

It should be noted that fees once paid during registration will not be refunded under any circumstances. Please fill the registration form only if you will be attending the summer school for sure.
The summer school will be completely in offline mode hosted by the Electrical Engineering department at the IISc, Bangalore campus. Participants will be required to attend the event by physically coming to the IISc campus.
